Internships with ANRT

ANRT offers a limited number of internships each year. Internships can range from field work in stewardship to office assistance opportunities and more.

2016 Summer/Fall Internships

Position Title: GIS and Mapping Intern, Conservation Easement Monitoring

Status: Unpaid Academic Internship

Description

Agricultural-Natural Resources Trust manages a conservation monitoring program. Each conservation easement (CE) are visited and monitored at least once per year. Monitoring is conducted by land trust stewardship director and volunteer monitors, who use a suite of tools to conduct onsite visits, record observations and produce reports. Monitoring Maps are a critical component for documenting and recording natural resource and built features on conservation properties. The GIS and Mapping Intern will assist in designing, building and manipulating conservation property maps. The intern will accompany the Stewardship or Executive Director at a monitoring visit to test the map use in the field, and give feedback on map features.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

A. GIS and mapping support for Conservation Easement Monitoring

  • Integrate existing GPS and GIS data into .mxd project files

  • Create and integrate new GIS data into .mxd project files

  • Update property files and assist in maintaining monitoring binders

B. Field assistance

  • Attend monitoring visits as needed (one or two trips) 

  • Utilize and test and assess the maps created

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Minimum of one semester of GIS coursework

  • Interest in cartography, spatial data management and communication through mapping

  • Ability to work independently

  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and a keen attention to detail

  • Ability to work at the ANRT office on a regular weekly schedule

  • Flexibility, creativity and sense of humor

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
